As a trainer, I think it's a good idea to be creative in how you communicate off the gym floor. Me personally, I don't want the communication and relationship with my clients to start and stop on the gym floor. That's only 2 to 4 hours of communication a week. I think trainers should keep the relationship and communication alive and flowing even off the gym floor and outside of the workout session. There's a couple ways you can do that... Check ins work. Each coach has a way and system they like to do that. As for me, right now, I have an open door policy. Meaning if you need accountability throughout the week, just text me and let me know how you're doing and I'll respond. Content is another way to keep the relationship alive. Being present on social media and making videos and helpful content around common questions or valuable information is always good. Posting content is not one on one access, but it's still communication and a way they can be around you and see you 24/7. That brings me to the next piece, make a podcast. As a trainer, you come across tons of different personalities, experienced many different training styles, and have expertise. Put all of those years and hours of knowledge and learning on a podcast so your clients can hear your voice and still learn from you while they're driving, running, cleaning, out with their kids, studying, and just doing life. This also allows them to learn more about you and see different sides of you. It's authentic. What I also love is creating a text community. Not a text "group" where you have a ton of people on the same text thread getting annoying text and responses, but a community style is where you personally text each person individually with the same message and they respond if they wish directly and only to you. I have a text community. I text people from my 510-288-2750 number or personal number, nonetheless, they're all getting the same message that contains valuable info and thoughtful messages. Hope this helps! Don't just be a trainer or a robot. Make an impact and create meaningful relationships around the work you do because it's life changing and matters more than you know.
